Artist Bio

Having been born in Ontario, Canada and being raised in San Diego, California by a mother, who in her own rights, was a very talented water colorist, my appreciation of art began at an early age.  What I see around me on a daily basis has inspired my interest in art and it has grown through the years.  I attended U.C. San Diego Art Extension in La Jolla, CA for two years and then I found myself in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1969.  There, it seemed at the time, was the end of a possible career in art.

After serving in the military I returned to San Diego to pursue a career as a private and corporate yacht captain.  This allowed me the opportunity to live in and visit many countries.  I have lived in the Bahamas, British Virgin Islands, Mexico, Costa Rica, parts of Europe, Africa, and have visited many other countries.  In all my travels I saw firsthand the art forms from many different cultures. It was fascinating to see different styles textures, and media, not to mention to be inspired by some amazing artists who were enthusiastic about discussing their work.

After retiring in 2008 I began to pay more attention to glass art.  In a few years I began working and learning the art of kiln formed glass. I am completely self taught not wanting any outside influences on my work. Sometimes, what’s in my mind is not what comes out of the kiln as a finished piece of art. This presents me with mistakes from which to learn and an occasional thunderclap of inspiration.

I specialize in “fused glass” also known as “warm glass” as all pieces are done in a kiln. I started selling my glass art in 2013.  My commission pieces tend to be wall panels, door side lights, back splashes, table tops, etc. as well as free standing sculptures.  Some of my work is commissioned by interior designers and contractors who want some general style, textures, colors and sizes created from my perspective. By bringing some of my smaller pieces to local Art Festivals and a few select Farmers Markets the general public gives me considerable feedback. Their inspiration and encouragement empowers me to expand and broaden, or sometimes sharpen, my focus.
